There are various stages in Atkins diet the first two weeks of Atkins diet is termed as the induction period. This stage dieters are allowed to eat about 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. The diet mainly includes meats,poultary,sea food,cheese,oils,butter,margarine etc

During these weeks the dieters are not allowed to have milk,fruits,grains,cereals,breads,potatoes,peas,corn and carrots.

Since the Atkins plan supports a low carbohydrate diet and limits the intake of fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods which are nutritious and important for ones body. The Atkins diet plans no doubt helps one is reducing their weight and burning calories but has some drawbacks also. The studies say there are health risks. A person may have a serious side effects, an extremely high protein diet can lead to acidic urine which may lead to osteoporosis and kidney stones. One can conclude that there are advantages and disadvantages in following Atkins diet.

The advantages of his diet plan are several people suffering from heart diseases have actually improved by following the Atkins diet plan. There was a decrease in serum triglyceride levels as compared to the low fat group and greater increase in serum HDL which is good or beneficial for cholesterol for the heart.

According to study conducted it is felt that Atkins diet may not be the perfect one. No doubt atkins low carbohydrate diet was associated with a improvement in some risk factors for coronary heart disease. No doubt one can burn their fat easily and reduce their weight by following Atkins diet plan but his diet does not recommend people to eat fruits, vegetables and grains which are the main sources of nutrient supply to the body. Some of the bad effects of kea tones producing diets are fatigue, weakness, irritability, nausea etc. To lead a healthy lifestyle one should exercise regularly and have a balanced diet which includes all kinds of variety food.
