Low Carbohydrates And Atkins Diet

NEVER DIET AGAIN! - Amazing New Must See Product Release - Cheat Your Way Thin

The whole theory of Atkins diet was propounded by Dr. Atkins (1930-2003). Atkins diet basically comprises of high protein and high fat but low carbohydrate content food. The physiology of the body is such that it first metabolizes carbohydrates and then fat to derive energy for the body. If the percentage of carbohydrates in the food being taken is greatly reduced then automatically in the absence of carbohydrates the excess fat in the body is metabolized and that too efficiently. Dr. Atkins also proposed that a person following such a diet has a good memory and a healthy heart.

This form of diet basically concentrates at reducing carbohydrate content so that fat is efficiently burnt. And high protein intake helps in building the body and hence avoids weakening of body.

Food plan

Since Atkins diet claims at reducing weight through the reduction of carbohydrates rather fat in the food unlike other traditional diet plans, Atkins diet does not look like a diet food surprisingly.

It sets only a small restriction on the quantity of food but the quality of food is strictly taken care of. For example carbohydrate containing food such as sugar, milk, white rice and white flour are strictly prohibited. The food is mainly comprised of eggs, cheese, meat, butter and other high protein and fat content food. The carbohydrate in the food is not allowed to exceed 10-20 grams a day. In the first few weeks carbohydrate intake is reduced, no fruits but a few leafy vegetables are allowed. In the subsequent weeks carbohydrates is allowed but only in the form of high fiber food. As gradually the weight is reduced the carbohydrate in form of fruits and vegetables are introduced in the diet. Exercise is a healthy practice and it should therefore be a part of normal routine of life.

Conclusion

This diet plan gained huge popularity in the recent years but several questions were raised against it. It is a very expensive diet plan as it is rich in protein and fat. The diet plan suffered controversies when Robert Atkins died in 2003 due to a fatal head injury. Controversies say when he died he himself was obese and died because of severe heart problems.
